Free cultural programs for teens, including Friday night film screenings, Saturdays art walks and free seats to cultural events. Open to all Bay Area students, middle school through college. Established 1993. 

FILM WORKSHOP @ THE MIX

A Free Filmmaking Workshop February-March 2025

Beginning February 6th 2025, SF Art & Film will be offering a free weekly filmmaking seminar for students hosted by the San Francisco Public Library’s teen center, THE MIX.

This program runs weekly on Thursdays beginning February 6 through March 27.

Over the 8 two-hour sessions, students will develop scripts, practice essential filmmaking skills and be taken through the steps to shoot their own films. Whether you're a beginner or experienced student filmmaker, this series is perfect for you. Get hands-on experience, learn new techniques, and connect with fellow film enthusiasts.

No equipment is required and there is no fee to participate. Students aged 13-18 only.

Our Mentor Staff

D'Wana Akilah Stewart is a San Francisco native, an educator for social justice, a videographer/ editor, and graphic designer. D'Wana has received her Bachelor's in Broadcast Electronic Communications from San Francisco State University in 2015. She has been working as Digital Media Arts teacher for 10+ years, educating youth on Graphic Design, Visual Arts and Entrepreneurship.


Isaiah Dufort is director of the San Francisco Art & Film Program and screenwriting mentor for its Film Workshop as well as a writing teacher at the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts in the creative writing and media departments.


Phil Elleston II is a San Francisco native, a filmmaker and producer.
